Researchers at Carnegie Mellon University and Intel have developed a new class of materials called solder magnetic nanocomposites that could help improve the process of electronic packaging.
The Carnegie Mellon research team, led by Prof Michael McHenry in collaboration with Intel senior packaging materials engineer Raja Swaminathan, devised the RF heating technique for solder magnetic nanoparticle (MNP) composites that can sufficiently heat solders to cause reflow without placing computer chips in conventional ovens.
At present, techniques for making computer chips during the electronic packaging process involve use of hot-air convection or the use of infrared ovens.
.Because heating the chips in these ovens requires significant energy costs and also poses the risk of chip warpage, Prof McHenry’s team worked collaboratively with Intel’s Swaminathan to develop a system that could use radio frequency coils to heat specially designed magnetic particles that are mixed with solder pastes.
‘By varying the concentration and composition of these magnetic particles we can control the time it takes to heat them, which ultimately helps improve the speed of processing them and potentially lowers the cost,’ said Prof McHenry.
‘Though we have a long way to go in implementing a locally melting solder in actual applications, the concept of local heating opens up many opportunities,’ said Swaminathan.
Research funding for the project came from a number of sources, including chip-making giant Intel and the US National Science Foundation.

Rebloggin
hi folks i´m back at bloggin after a forced suspecion due to illness but now i´m back and i´m stronger than ever :D
for the new ones here is a lil´ bit about me :
I´m 20 years old, my birthday is april 24 i enjoy videogames, comics, sci-fi, philosophy, phisics, math, robotics, movies, music and last but not least EATING XD
i´m studying electronical ingeneerin at urbe, i´m on my 7° trimester, i´m also a member of Saber Electronica URBE and Venspace
I dislike Chiken, most vegtabels, most regeton and vallenato, close minded people, not having money :P, and doing to much nothing
i have many dreams the bigger one being to create and desing medical nanorobots and the smaller one being to graduate from urbe :D
i think english is a necesary tool for all engineers due to the amount of information that is in that lenguage and well... to comunicate whenever we may go...

Electronics Engineering, [1] also referred to as Electronic Engineering[2][3] is an engineering discipline which uses the scientific knowledge of the behavior and effects of electrons to develop components, devices, systems, or equipment (as in electron tubes, transistors, integrated circuits, and printed circuit boards) that uses electrictity as part of its driving force. Both terms denote a broad engineering field that encompasses many subfields including those that deal with power, instrumentation engineering, telecommunications, and semiconductor circuit design amongst many others.[4]
The term also covers a large part of electrical engineering degree courses as studied at most European universities. In the U.S., however, electrical engineering implies all the wide electrical disciplines including electronics. The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers is one of the most important and influential organizations for electronic engineers. Indian universities have separate department for "Electronics Engineering".
So that´s my carrer, my passion, and hobby
